Our memories of Wayne include the big soft-spoken gentle guy walking the dog (which he loved), puttering around the yard and driving his silver pickup truck (his pride and joy) to the station to collect Nancy like he was on a hot date. He was very proud of her and deservedly so. We hope Nancy and the family will be comforted by memories, the love they had for Wayne, his spirit, and the knowledge they had the strength and courage to make his last years on earth as good as possible in the face of a devastating illness.

Nancy: Our prayers are with you and your family. I am a second cousin of Wayne (on his dad's side) and graduated with Wayne in 1953. Michelle has kept me up-to-date on his condition. What a battle he had and now it is over. We are thankful for the good memories and good times. Betty Lee Cannon Layton

In the years Wayne spent at Milton Harbor house, we got to consider him a good friend. When he retired, we missed him and still do. He was a good man.

I had the good fortune of getting to know Coach Burris as a result of our time coaching and traveling with the Eastchester Blue Devils Organization. Wayne was not only a positive influence on the youth but also to the volunteering adults. We'll all miss the "Big Burr" but will not soon forget him! RIP my friend!
